Dear Friends and Neighbors,
2014 has been an eventful year for your community food bank. We expanded the front area, added new counters and shelves, installed separate doors for entry and exit to improve traffic flow, and remodeled the back room. These and other changes enhance service to our clients.
Starting this year, thanks to support from the Honeywell Family Charitable Trust, the food bank now offers fresh produce year ‘round. During the local growing season, many island farmers and Master Gardeners also contribute fruit and vegetables. These gifts add great value to the nutritional quality of food bank distributions.
Even with the generous support we receive from these benefactors, the food bank continues to have unmet needs. As you may know, we rely also on food drives by our schools, churches, realtors, and other island organizations. Supporting the food bank is a combined effort – including contributions from individual donors like you.
During winter, many households experience seasonal layoffs and reduced incomes. And in every season there is genuine hunger in our community. For many families, the food bank is a safety net. Without the support of individual donors, your food bank would not be able to meet needs of our local hungry households.
We try very hard to stretch your dollars. Our dedicated volunteers stock shelves, sort goods and serve our clients. Nearly every donated dollar buys food for those in our neighborhoods who need a helping hand. We need your support to meet these nutritional needs.
You can be part of the solution to reduce local hunger. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to your food bank.
With our sincere thanks,
The Friday Harbor Food Bank Board
